If so, let's talk. IBM is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Back End Developer Intern to join the IBM Z team in Tucson. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to enterprise-scale software development projects, learn from experienced engineers, and grow within a global technology leader. You'll help build and maintain backend systems that support z/OS-based applications used by some of the world's largest organizations. Participate in Agile development cycles: design, code, test, and support. Assist in the development and maintenance of backend services, APIs, and data integrations that are clean, well-documented, and easy to use (e.g., REST APIs). Work with client-server architectures, networking protocols, application development, and databases. Design and code server applications and databases that are reusable, scalable, and meet architecture goals. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, architects, and product managers; participate in code reviews and testing activities. Support deployment and monitoring of backend applications in cloud and hybrid environments. Learn and apply best practices in software development, Cloud DevOps methodologies, and continuous delivery. Who You Are Curious, motivated, and eager to learn new technologies. A team player with strong communication and collaboration skills. Comfortable with debugging, problem-solving, and adapting to new challenges. Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Basic knowledge of C or one or more of the following: C++, Java, Golang, Python, Ruby, Perl, or SQL. Familiarity with software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies (Scrum, DevOps workflows). Basic understanding of APIs (e.g., REST APIs), databases (SQL/NoSQL), and version control systems (Git). Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and good communication and collaboration abilities. Coursework or hands-on experience with assembly language (any architecture) or systems-level programming in C or C++, including memory management or low-level data structures. Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, Perl, or similar) for automation or system interaction. Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), CI/CD pipelines, or containerization tools (Docker). Familiarity with JSON, Web Services, or virtualization and cloud operations concepts.
