Internship - AI Developer (IT Customer Experience)

As an AI Developer Intern, you will work alongside our engineering team to help build and improve AI-driven features for our customer portal. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with real-world AI applications, learn from experienced developers, and contribute meaningfully to a product used by real customers.

You'll get exposure to the full development lifecycle — from experimenting with models and prototyping features, to testing and shipping improvements — while receiving mentorship from senior engineers on our team.

What you’ll do

• Research, test, and evaluate new AI tools, libraries, and APIs to assess their fit for our customer portal — before they're considered for integration

• Build proof-of-concepts (PoCs) to validate ideas, test feasibility, and demonstrate potential features to the team

• Assist in developing and testing AI-powered features for the customer portal 

• Write and debug code under the guidance of senior developers 

• Help evaluate and fine-tune AI models or integrate third-party AI APIs 

• Participate in code reviews, stand-ups, and planning discussions 

• Document your work and learnings as you go

What we’re looking for

• Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, or a related field 

• Skills & Experience: 

• Familiarity with Python (or another relevant language) and basic understanding of AI/ML concepts 

• Curiosity and eagerness to learn — prior professional experience isn't required 

• Comfortable working independently on research/PoC work, as well as collaboratively with the team

• Strong documentation habits — you can clearly explain what you tried and what you learned

• Bonus: any personal projects, coursework, or experimentation with LLMs, ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow), or AI APIs

• Collaboration & Communication: Effective collaboration and communication skills for working within a cross-functional Agile Scrum team in English.

• Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving abilities

SAP Customer Portals is responsible to define and implement SAP’s customer & partner portal SAP for Me. SAP for Me is one of the three main digital access points to SAP. In this context SAP for Me is the digital companion for all customers and partners to efficiently manage all their tasks and get insights in all their data related to their SAP collaboration. 

The Customer Portals team has about 50 employees located in Germany, China and Romania. We are using cutting edge technologies and managing the agile scrum teams with the SAFe methodology.
