About this role
NO CYBERSECURITY, READ DESCRIPTION
Amazon's data centers house the infrastructure that powers the world's largest cloud. Protecting them is mission-critical — and as a Security Specialist Intern at Amazon Web Services (AWS), you will help ensure the physical security of these facilities from the inside.
You will drive operational security excellence, write reports, create presentations, and communicate with management on the status of physical security operations. Are you ready to embrace the challenge? Come build the future with us.
This internship is designed as a potential pathway to full-time employment. Interns who demonstrate strong performance throughout their internship may be considered for a full-time Security Specialist position, subject to available roles and business needs.
Who Should Apply
We welcome applications from:
- Students in the last year of their Technical/Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Security Management, Criminology, or a related field who are looking for an internship that could lead to a full-time career.
About the Role
As a Security Specialist Intern, you will work within the Data Center Security team and play a hands-on role in the day-to-day physical security operations of Amazon's data centers. You will collaborate with security vendors, analyze operational data, and help identify improvements to surveillance systems, access controls, and security procedures.
This is not a desk-only role. You will engage directly with the people, systems, and processes that keep Amazon's most critical infrastructure safe.
What You Will Do
- Coordinate with vendors involved in new security construction, repairs, daily security operations and patrols, and planning.
- Analyze security metrics and data to identify trends and recommend improvements
- Make suggestions on improving electronic surveillance systems and access controls
- Help develop and deliver guidance to data center occupants on reducing false alarms
- Write reports and create presentations on the status of physical security operations for management
- Assist with planning and coordinating security-related projects
- Support incident documentation and follow-up processes
Internship Structure

Diverse Experiences
AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed below, we encourage you to apply. If your career is just starting, has not followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, do not let that stop you from applying.
Your Career at Amazon — A Universe of Opportunity
At Amazon, your career is not a straight path. It is a journey you build as you go.
From your first day as an intern, you will own real work that matters. You will help protect the infrastructure that keeps AWS running for millions of customers. Your mentors and teammates will champion your growth, helping you build skills you did not know existed — and you will see your work come to life at massive scale.
Impact. Your work protects the physical infrastructure that millions of customers rely on every day. The security operations you support keep Amazon's most critical facilities safe and running.
Action. You will move fast, analyze real security data, and make recommendations that get implemented. Your ideas do not stay theoretical — they get tested and put into practice.
Curiosity. Every project teaches you something new. You will learn how physical security operates at world-class scale and explore different teams, technologies, and career paths within Amazon.
Mentorship and career growth. You will start with structured onboarding and get paired with experienced mentors. Our team is dedicated to supporting new members in an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing. Projects and tasks are assigned in a way that leverages your strengths and helps you further develop your skill set. Your journey here is yours to shape.
