ABOUT THE TEAM
The AMD SerDes team in Ireland develops high-speed SerDes solutions operating at 200+ Gb/s using advanced CMOS FinFET technologies. The team has extensive expertise in the design of analog and mixed-signal circuits for the high-speed transmission, reception, clocking, and recovery of data over wired links. The successful candidate will join a world-class engineering team developing advanced SerDes solutions that enable high-performance connectivity across AMD CPU, GPU, and FPGA products.
The Analog Mixed-Signal (AMS) team designs high-performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits, including ADCs, DACs, voltage and current references, clocking circuits, regulators, high-speed interfaces, and SerDes-related analog building blocks. As part of AMD's IC design team, you will work alongside experienced analog and mixed-signal designers and gain hands-on exposure to the complete IC design flow, from circuit specifications and architecture through transistor-level design, simulation, layout, verification, and post-layout analysis.
The internship is designed to provide practical experience in analog and mixed-signal IC design using industry-leading design tools, advanced CMOS technologies, and professional design methodologies.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
As an Analog & Mixed-Signal Design Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers and gain hands-on experience designing advanced integrated circuits, including high-speed SerDes.
- Learn how system requirements are translated into analog and mixed-signal circuit designs.
- Support the design, simulation and optimization of transistor-level circuits.
- Work with analog building blocks such as amplifiers, bias circuits, voltage/current references, data converters, clocking circuits and high-speed interfaces.
- Run simulations across different operating conditions and analyse key performance metrics such as gain, bandwidth, noise, power, jitter and stability.
- Gain exposure to custom IC layout, including matching, placement, routing and parasitic effects.
- Evaluate designs through pre-layout and post-layout simulation and verification.
- Participate in design reviews and share your findings with experienced engineers.
- Gain hands-on experience with industry-standard IC design and simulation tools.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You are currently enrolled in university in a program majoring in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Microelectronics, Integrated Circuit Design, or a related discipline, and have an interest in analog and mixed-signal IC design.
If you have experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply -
- Electronic circuit fundamentals, including MOS transistors and transistor-level circuit analysis.
- Analog concepts such as biasing, differential amplifiers, feedback, frequency response, stability, noise and device matching.
- Familiarity with analog/mixed-signal circuits such as ADCs, DACs, PLLs, regulators, references or high-speed interfaces.
- Exposure to SPICE-based circuit simulation or analog IC design environments.
- Familiarity with tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, Synopsys Custom Compiler or HSPICE is an advantage, but not required.
- Basic knowledge of custom IC layout or physical design.
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, Tcl, Perl, or similar tools for data analysis or automation.
- Analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Curiosity, initiative and an interest in developing your skills in analog/mixed-signal IC design, high-speed circuits and leading-edge CMOS technologies.
Note: By submitting your application, you are indicating your interest in AMD intern positions. We are recruiting for multiple positions, and if your experience aligns with any of our intern opportunities, a recruiter will contact you.
Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.
