Networking Internship - AI EngineeringThis role has been designed as 'Hybrid' with a requirement that you will work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office.

Job Description:

We are looking for a Networking Intern (AI Engineering) within HPE, Intelligent Edge to join us!
You will have an exciting opportunity to learn and collaborate on software engineering projects with guidance from R&D team that creates the innovative private cloud solutions that our customers depend on for high performance workloads.

Start Date: 11. January 2027 (~ 8 month)

Location: Galway, Ireland

Mandatory Requirements: Enrolled in a University during the internship and eligibility to work in Ireland in full-time during the internship 

What you'll do:

• Work on a specific project critical to HPE in an Agile environment

• Build automation that configures, provisions, and manages network devices at scale.

• Use AI coding agents (OpenCode, Copilot) to accelerate writing playbooks, parsers, and test harnesses, while staying accountable for correctness

• Receive guidance from a senior member of the Engineering team who will help you technically approach the use cases

• Utilize new trends in network programmability, telemetry, and closed-loop automation

What you'll bring:

• Good time management and project management skills

• Exposure to the Linux operating system and scripting languages such as Python, but more importantly, a passion for technology and for building with AI tools

• Confidence and self-motivation both when working independently and as part of a team

• Strong desire to excel and surpass expectations

• Enthusiasm, motivation, and willingness to learn

What we'd prefer you know:

• Experience experimenting with AI coding assistants or LLM-based tools on personal or academic projects

• Good time management and project management skills

• Confidence and self-motivation both when working independently and as part of a team, including directing and supervising AI agents

• Strong desire to excel and surpass expectations

• Enthusiasm, motivation, and willingness to learn and adapt as the tooling evolves
