As a Back-end Developer Intern within IBM's z/OS Support organization, you will work closely with a specialized sub-team responsible for the serviceability and support infrastructure of IBM's world-renowned mainframe systems. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with enterprise-scale computing platforms that support critical workloads for many of the world's leading organizations. In this role, you will: Contribute to the development, and implementation of productivity tools and automation solutions that enhance support infrastructure efficiency. Collaborate with experienced engineers to solve real-world technical challenges affecting enterprise customers. Apply programming and problem-solving skills to develop innovative solutions and improve operational processes. Gain exposure to large-scale systems architecture, software engineering practices, debugging techniques, and serviceability frameworks. Learn first-hand how IBM supports mission-critical environments and delivers exceptional customer experiences. This internship is ideal for students with a passion for software development, debugging complex operating system, systems engineering, automation, and emerging technologies who want to make a meaningful impact while learning from some of the industry's leading experts. Passion for pursuing a career in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Foundational understanding of software design, development, and/or testing principles. Knowledge of computer architecture and operating system concepts. Strong passion for debugging, problem determination, and diagnosing complex software and system issues. Demonstrated curiosity to investigate problems, analyze logs, trace failures, and drive issues to resolution in large-scale computing environments. Experience with one or more programming languages such as C, C++, Java, or Assembly. Strong analytical and debugging skills with a problem-solving mindset. Familiarity with scripting and automation technologies such as Python, JavaScript, Perl, Bash, or similar languages. Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt to challenging technical environments. Exposure to IBM Mainframe technologies or an interest in enterprise computing platforms. Understanding of computer networking concepts and protocols. Experience with web application or mobile application development. Familiarity with modern development tools and practices, including Git, GitHub, IntelliJ, or equivalent platforms. Interest in automation, cloud technologies, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering.
