Software Engineering Internship - London

About the role:

Samsara interns dive into challenging, real-world projects with the same freedom and responsibility as our full-time engineers. You won't just be learning; you'll be building and making a tangible impact on our global customers from day one. You'll join a team working at a scale few engineers encounter early in their careers: millions of IoT devices deployed globally, petabytes of real-time data, and software that directly affects the safety of people doing some of the most essential work in the world. You'll be paired with an Engineering mentor, get rare exposure to customers, and have visibility to engineering leadership throughout your internship. You'll also have access to the latest AI tools, with generous token allotments, giving you the leverage to ship more and learn faster.

At Samsara, interns can work on a wide range of high-impact engineering challenges across our connected operations platform. Depending on the team, an intern may help build the backend infrastructure that powers our IoT platform, scaling data ingestion and storage systems that support over 15,000 hardware assets and tens of thousands of customers around the world. They may also work across the full stack, creating intuitive user experiences that turn data into actionable insights, while partnering closely with product and design to rapidly iterate on features that deliver real customer value.

On the mobile side, an intern could help strengthen the infrastructure behind our React Native app, enabling feature teams to move quickly and build performant, maintainable products. For those focused on embedded software, projects may include building and maintaining software that runs directly on Samsara hardware, spanning areas like edge AI, multimedia frameworks, power management, and real-time data processing in demanding real-world environments.

Throughout the interview process, we will dig into your past experience, what you are most interested in learning next, and where you would be the best fit across our engineering teams.

Our engineering teams use Golang for backend development, TypeScript and React for the web client, GraphQL for data access, and React Native for mobile development. Direct experience with this exact stack is not required, but experience with similar technologies is strongly encouraged.

You should apply if…

• You want to impact the industries that run our world. The software you build will help keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and - most importantly - ensure workers return home safely.
• You want to build for scale. You'll work on technology that powers physical operations at a scale most engineers never experience.
• You believe customers are more than a number. Our engineers are deeply invested in our customers and the daily problems they face. They visit customers in person to understand not just how Samsara helps them today, but where our products need to go next. You’ll participate in customer interviews, collaborate with success and product teams, and use metrics to ensure your work translates into real outcomes.
• You're curious and self-driven. You challenge yourself outside of class - hackathons, side projects, tearing apart how something works just because you want to understand it. You move fast, embrace new technology, and treat learning as constant.
• You're drawn to hard problems and own them end to end. You dig into complexity, research it thoroughly, and find the simplest solution that works - then see it through, holding yourself to a high standard along the way.
• You're AI-forward. You've woven AI into how you work, whether that's accelerating debugging, drafting code, or exploring unfamiliar problem spaces faster. You're quick to experiment and always looking for smarter ways to build.
• You're a collaborator. You work well independently and across cross-functional teams, and you're motivated by winning together, not just individually.

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Currently in your penultimate year of study (or second-to-last year of an integrated Master’s / MEng), on track to complete a Bachelor’s or integrated Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Data Science, with expected graduation no earlier than Summer 2028.
• This internship is hybrid: 3 days per week in our London office.
• This internship is a full-time, paid experience — interns are expected not to be enrolled in school or university full-time while working at Samsara.

In your application

• Include your CV / résumé.
• Answer all of the application questions.
• We’re reviewing applications on a rolling basis, and we expect to finalize our cohort by late November/early December. Applications will close October 30th at 6:00pm (UK). Please do not email us to inquire about the status of your application.
