About this role
About Our Internship Program
Zoox's internship program offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology, mentorship from some of the industry's brightest minds, and the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to real projects. We seek interns who demonstrate strong academic performance, engagement beyond the classroom, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine interest in Zoox's mission.
Job Description
Data Science turns Zoox's driving, fleet and business data into decisions and automation. As a Data Scientist Intern, you may be assigned to one of the following teams:
- Autonomy Software V&V: You will work on fleet metrics, behavior analysis, and performance evaluation of our autonomous vehicles. Analyze real-world driving data to identify patterns, measure autonomy performance, and inform stack improvements. Contribute to metrics platforms that track miles-per-disengagement, driving behavior clusters (PUDO, lane changes, pullovers), and safety-critical events across our L3 development and production service fleets.
- Core/Domain Data Science: You will provide data solutions to deliver domain-specific analytical insights. In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform data analysis to develop and validate the simulation framework evaluating Zoox’s autonomous driving software. You collaborate with key stakeholders in the Simulation team to gain insight into the safety and comfort performance of our robotaxi. This internship will provide you with hands-on experience in building performance metrics and conducting in-depth data analyses, contributing to data-driven decision-making within the cutting-edge field of autonomous vehicles.
In this Role, You Will...
- Use coding and analytical skills to derive insights that inform decisions and automation
- Test new frameworks and algorithms to improve model performance
- Work on a project such as drift monitoring, automated model retraining, predictive modeling, similarity search or statistical testing
Internship Requirements
- Currently working towards a B.S., M.S., Ph.D., or advanced degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related engineering program
- Good academic standing
- Expected to graduate between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028, and enrolled at an accredited college or university throughout the internship
- Able to commit to a full-time, 12-week internship beginning in May/June 2027
- Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, California, for the duration of the internship
- Interns at Zoox may not use any proprietary information they are working on as part of their thesis, any published work with their university, or to be distributed to anyone outside of Zoox
